Up and running in under a minute

No downloads, no accounts to create. If you have Telegram, you're ready.

1

Open the bot

Tap Start in @FlightPingAppBot and open the Mini App. Everything lives there — the chat stays clean for alerts only.

2

Build your watchlist

Search by registration (G-ABCD), callsign (BAW123), or ICAO hex (4CA1FB) — or pick from curated Suggestions.

3

Get pinged

FlightPing polls open ADS-B data and messages you the second your watchlist aircraft change state — with a map when position is known.

FlightPing polls open ADS-B about every 3 minutes — great for spotting, not second-by-second like a live radar feed.

Unique to FlightPing

Area alerts — geofences for your watchlist

Draw a circle on the map. Pick which aircraft matter. Get a Telegram ping when they enter — not just when they take off somewhere else.

Most trackers tell you an aircraft is airborne. FlightPing Areas answers a different question: “Did it come into my patch of sky?” Perfect for display boxes, approach paths, airshows, or watching traffic near your home field.

1

Open Areas in the Mini App

Tap the map to set the centre, drag the radius slider (10–80 km), and name your zone.

2

Link watchlist aircraft

Choose which hexes trigger this zone — only aircraft you already follow.

3

Enter = alert

When ADS-B shows a linked aircraft inside your circle, you get a Telegram message with a live map link.

Enter-only (no exit spam). Depends on ~3 min polling and fresh ADS-B — fast fly-throughs may be missed.

Phase alerts vs Area alerts

Two ways to get notified — often used together.

🟢 Phase

Takeoff, landing & signal lost

When it fires
Aircraft changes state (airborne, on ground, signal lost)
Follow today?
Yes — follow the aircraft for the day in the Mini App
Best for
Knowing it flew today
📍 Area

Geofence enter

When it fires
Aircraft enters your drawn circle
Follow today?
No — uses your watchlist only
Best for
Knowing it came into your sky

Three alerts that actually matter

Tuned to avoid noise. Parked aircraft going quiet won't spam you.

🟢 Airborne

Takeoff & reappear

The first fresh ADS-B contact in the air — whether it just rotated off the runway or popped back up after a coverage gap.

🟡 On ground

Landed & first seen

First sight on the ground, including smart landing inference when an aircraft goes dark low and slow on approach.

📴 Signal lost

Went quiet mid-air

ADS-B drops out after the aircraft was airborne — useful for spotting handoffs, range edges, or transponder-off moments.

Frequently asked

What is FlightPing?

A Telegram bot for aviation enthusiasts: follow famous aircraft or any registration you choose on free ADS-B networks, and get alerted the moment they take off, land, or lose signal — optionally with a map.

How do I add an aircraft?

Open the Mini App and search by registration (G-ABCD), callsign (BAW123), or 6-character ICAO hex (4CA1FB). Or pick one from the curated Suggestions list.

Where do I find an aircraft's hex code?

On FlightRadar24 open an aircraft and copy its Mode S code, or click a plane on maps.flightping.app and copy its ICAO hex.

Is it really free?

Yes — the Free plan tracks 5 aircraft and new users get a 30-day Pro trial. Plus (~£3.99 / 350 ⭐ per year) and Pro (~£7.99 / 750 ⭐ per year) unlock more aircraft; you pay in Telegram Stars at checkout (local price varies by region).

Does FlightPing track my personal data?

No analytics. Your watchlist stays in the operator's own database. At runtime FlightPing only talks to Telegram, open ADS-B APIs, and OpenStreetMap tiles.

Why didn't I get an alert for a military or warbird flight?

Many military and historic aircraft only broadcast ADS-B intermittently — often just during displays or transits — so they're quiet much of the time. That's expected, and part of the thrill when they do appear.

How do Area alerts work?

In the Mini App Areas tab, draw a circular zone on the map (10–80 km radius), link aircraft from your watchlist, and save. FlightPing alerts you on enter only when fresh ADS-B puts them inside the circle — no follow-today needed. Free: 1 zone; Plus: 3; Pro: 10.

How do friend invites work?

In the Mini App Settings → Invite friends (or /invite in the bot), copy your personal link. New users who start the bot through that link get 90 days of Pro; you receive 90 extra days on your subscription. The bonus applies once per friend; self-invites and existing accounts are ignored.
